REALTORS of BC Vote Gets Rejected

bcreaA Letter from BCREA President Deanna Horn

Dear BC REALTORS®Today, at Special General Meetings held at six real estate boards, REALTORS® showed up in record numbers to vote on whether to participate in the proposed amalgamation of six real estate boards and the BC Real Estate Association into a new single organization, called REALTORS® of BC. Over 67 per cent of REALTORS® from the participating boards voted in favour of the initiative; clearly there is a REALTOR® appetite for change. However, three boards voted in favour of amalgamation and three boards didn’t reach the required voting threshold. Therefore, the proposal did not achieve critical mass to move forward. Here are the results from the participating boards:

ORGANIZATION

BC Northern Real Estate Board
Vote Needed   75%
Vote Result      89%

Fraser Valley Real Estate Board
Vote Needed  75%
Vote result       63%

Kamloops and District Real Estate Association
Vote Needed  75%
Vote Result     70%

Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board
Vote Needed  67%
Vote Result     56%

Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver
Vote Needed  67%
Vote Result     69%

South Okanagan Real Estate Board
Vote Needed  75%
Vote Result     79%

While we are disappointed about the results, we have had a clear answer from our member boards. Organized real estate has many opportunities to continue to support the professionalism of REALTORS®, and we are now planning for the future and how we can best work together. Many people across the province worked hard on this initiative – both REALTORS® and staff – and I want to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment.
